The NLS Initiative Berlin has invited Vicente Palomera to Berlin to answer the question

What may I hope for and expect from psychoanalysis? Palomera bases his response on the following considerations:

Freud once wrote, that the most a patient could hope for was deliverance from his neurotic misery - “transforming your hysterical misery into common unhappiness”. This is a phrase of terrible realism and pessimism. Jacques Lacan thought that one could obtain something original and new from this neurotic unhappiness and give someone a new possibility of choice. He evokes the possibility of, I don’t know whether to say a new desire, but at least a new effect of desire. This is a great promise.
 

This lecture is chaired by Natalie Wülfing. It is open to anyone with an interest in (Lacanian) psychoanalysis and welcomes particularly students, who are invited to pose questions.
